Default Adblock Plus advertising and Untangle

If Untangle uses Adblock Plus, does that meant that it'll let ads through from the ad platform that has just been announced by Adblock Plus?

I've just started testing Untangle as an replacement for pfSense at home, but the ability to block ads is one of the main features I'm interested in.

If you want to block ads, ditch the ad block module, get web filter and turn on the advertising category... it's far more effective.

The adblock module is virtually worthless without SSL inspector armed, installed, and configured properly. Ad Block works in your browser because it can see all the information, Untangle can't... https makes it that way. Which is oddly enough, the entire reason for SSL.

Thanks sky-knight, I'll test that approach. Worth mentioning that there's no "advertising" category per-se, but I get the idea.

Marketing Services and Online Ads are the advertising categories I use.

Thanks Coffin, those are the correct categories.

With my memory these days it's a wonder I get anything done!

    Online Ads and Marketing Services.

Marketing services picks up a lot of the telemetry stealing firms like Mixpanel. However both can break websites and cause issues so I personally feel their use should be closely monitored.

I choose to leave them off. Use APP-Control for things like Googleads and Mixpanel. I block ads at the DNS level by enforcing DNS override to Adguard DNS servers, which also block malware/botnet/spam dns requests as well. I've found adguard DNS doesn't break pages or cause anything to load improperly.

However if you don't mind spending time whitelisting then Onlineads+Marketing would be a great option! I got tired of hearing my wife complain so I went the route I went.. LOL

Adblock module in Untangle I do leave on, uncheck blockads and I leave Cookie/tracker blocking on. It does block about 500 cookies a week on my network so I don't see any harm in the use of it.

I'm also a big fan of the Ublock Origin add-on for Mozilla Firefox...
Vanguard Untangle...because nothing's worse than doing nothing!
