Why is it a problem? I also raised this as an issue? What are they doing that's so special?
I did note that the software downloads a small program that uses Akamai to run first.
It's something to do with the way Akamai does the routing... I haven't been able to lock it down despite staring at wireshark logs till my eyes fell out.

Hello all,
did you try to do some things with maximum transmission unit (MTU) settings?
I notice lot of problems with download from Microsoft and MSN Messenger, then I change the MTU and the problem resolved by this, but you need to check the right MTU for your connection.
for more info see this: http://help.expedient.com/broadband/mtu.shtml

No, I'm having issues on my cable and I've already checked that it operates on the standard 1500mtu from end to end. Also, if I bypass my machine it works fine. It isn't the connection, it's the UVM.

The problem still exists in UT 6.2
Downloading works when I turn off the following rack modules:
Phish Blocker
Spyware Blocker
Web Filter
Virus Blocker
Intrusion Prevention
Ad Blocker
The initial connection is made but the connections for data get lost.
Maybe they use nonstandard or encrypted requests wich are not understood by the
rack modules.
I also raised this as an issue and got round it by bypassing the UT box.
Switching off the UT box is not a solution or at least switching almost all the services off. There must be a good reason for this not to be working.
As I previously said this problem is going to get worse soon as Microsoft are going towards software distribution of CD /DVD#s more and more. and to be fair to them its easier, faster, more reliable ( assuming you have a reasonable Internet link).
so whats causing this issue Untangle people?? Its not like you to have an open hard fault like this for such a long time without a fix.
I echo this, and add my voice as well. I just received a notice that all future MSDN and Action Pack updates will be happening by download unless you want to pay an extra $200 on the subscription to have DVD's delivered.
I sent binary TCPDump data to support on this issue specifically almost a year ago. It is time to have this resolved.

Bug filed again, everyone jump on the bugzilla. The Devs don't read the forums.

I think you will find that they are doing that as a starting point only. If this works ( which it will) they will move to generalised distribution of software on-line. Think of how much money they can save. They did this with manuals a few years ago why not the software as well.
So well done for reporting it.
