    Default NGFW Intrusion Prevention beta available!

    The new Intrusion Prevention beta is available!

    This reworks Intrusion Prevention to use Snort. The changelog is here:

    Yes, this is the same Untangle install. The instructions for using the new IPS beta are in the above link.
    If you already have the 11.1 beta installed you can use that.

    when should I expect IPS to check for updates after a new install?

    I've not had a chance to play with the new intrusion prevention module, but I am curious about something in the change log:
    However, "more is better" is not necessarily true; not all rules should be enabled. In fact, the Snort distribution only enables around 6,000 to Log by default.

    As with any intrusion detection and prevention system, you must be careful as to the rules you enable. It is highly, highly recommended that you don't enable Block unless you are certain that you understand the implications of doing so.
    Does that mean that none of the rules are flagged to Block by default so without configuration it only logs? Or are there some rules set to Block by default, and the caution note is about setting additional rules to Block?
