    Default Announcing Untangle firmware!

    Thank you to all those passionate home users that have been using Untangle at home for all these years.

    We hear you. There is clearly large need for Untangle-like abilities in the home.
    There is also clearly need for cheaper hardware for the smaller offices and home offices.

    Unfortunately building your own server or buying a server is not realistic for everyone.

    We're excited to introduce the "Untangle firmware" designed to run on existing wireless routers.
    For those of your familiar with firmwares, you may have heard of DD-WRT or OpenWRT and the untangle firmware works very similarly.
    However, Untangle brings all the features of an business firewall you love into the router firmware.

    You can read all about it here:
    https://www.untangle.com/firmware/
    https://wiki.untangle.com/index.php/ASUS_RT-AC88U

    To get an idea of what the Untangle firmware can do look here:
    https://wiki.untangle.com/index.php/...ure_Comparison

    For those familiar with Untangle this is just regular v12.1 Untangle especially tuned for this router.
    Initially we're supporting only the ASUS RT-AC88U but we hope to add support for more routers in the future. If there are any good candidates you'd like to see - let me know.

    We'll be officially announcing this and some other initiatives at Defcon in Vegas this week.
    If you happen to be at Defcon, please swing our table and say hello!
    We'll also have some flashed routers to show off.

    Makes me wish I hadn't just bought a server

    Though looking closely this, the only supported router costs more than my server did... but I understand this is probably just a launch thing. More time with the platform and Moore's Law will allow UT to support more and cheaper routers over time.

    Nice work!!!

    Requirements

    • An ASUS AC-RT88U router
    • USB hard drive or USB flash drive (8 GB or greater)
    Just me or is it a "RT-AC88U"? (AC-RT88U to me is unknown)

    Poking around and if I read the untangle-hw.conf this means that running this hardware = 10k session limit again.
    Should not be a problem for "home" users but might be an issue if SMB looks for this as a Hardware selection.

    But I might be wrong about the limit.

    Ahh.. I see that it might be some legacy code as the startup script contains
    if [ $ARCH = 'x86_64' ]; then
    SESSION_LIMIT=0
    else
    SESSION_LIMIT=10000
