    Code:
    [root @ untangle] ~ # dpkg --print-architecture
    amd64
On an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.2 Ghz
    7/12/2007 BIOS
    2 Gig RAM

So I guess it was a pretty decent machine, in it's day.

It still is honestly, the only place it falls down is in power consumption. But yeah, as you can see it's a 64bit capable platform, because that's what Core 2 was. All desktop platforms produced that can still actually operate are AMD64 capable. (Ok I'm sure there are some beige cases out there as exceptions, but work with me here!)

There are only a few narrow exceptions, such as the Atom line I mentioned earlier. CPUs like the Atom N270 are i386 only, and if you attempt to boot them to AMD64, they'll simply pop text on the screen telling you to knock that crap off, it won't work.

Lol if that's true you need to start looking in your neighbors garages because I'm pretty sure I've thrown away more modern platforms than that!

I'm hoping the new underlying OS/kernel will fix this:

It "should", there's almost a 3 year gap in driver versions from Intel in the mix.

It should, as it's based on Debian 10 and that junk is FINALLY supported on the Debian side.

No. While the base OS supports it, there are kernel issues to be ironed out due to the Untangle customizations in it. Probably in the next release.
