If I look back at the last four major release dates, count the days between them, then average those three time periods, I get one and a third years between major releases of NGFW. This would suggest that the 16.0.0 release will be around July 2021 (see spreadsheet). Does this prediction seem reasonable?

15.0 should have been 14.4 or 14.5 but they needed a new version for a trade show. So remove that from your calculations.

If you look at https://jira.untangle.com/browse/NGF...n%20%3D%2016.0 almost everything is fixed or moved to 16.1. So maybe there will be another beta or release soon. Ready would be nice.

Yeah... that was a train wreck. Hey we need this new cool feature for the show!

So instead of the new OS getting the dedicated testing that goes into a .0 release, we got it in a .1 release.

Which created this mess where v15.0 really was v14.3, and v15.1 is v15.0, and now we're on v15.1.1 because bugs. So the bug fixed stable release of what is current will probably wind up being v16.0... but oh wait no it wont because that's enabling EFI in the kernel and testing a ton of new fundamental code in there. No new features otherwise that I'm aware of, and it's been in Beta... for a LONG TIME, relative to how Untangle usually works. But I don't see that as a bad thing, given the GRUB mess we're still cleaning up.

TLDR, the subject isn't touchy... BUT it's been beaten to death, and it's clear that one some levels Untangle is letting the tail wag the dog, and some of us old timers are getting a bit grumpy about it.

If you define the "real" 15.0.0 to be a later released version (say 15.1.0), it just moves my prediction a bit later in 2021.

16 is out at least as an RC. Let's see if they got it right this time.

    Untangle made an RC...

That's new... so I would say they're being cautiously optimistic about it all.

Maybe I'm not understanding this or I am missing a step or something but creating .link files for my NICs only makes it so Untangle doesn't even find the cards after a reboot.

Are you able to help me out with this? I can't find much other than your post about this anywhere.
