A friend of mine recently upgraded his dental office management software which required a complete redesign of his network infrastructure. He hired a local company to upgrade his two offices from a peer-to-peer network to a Windows server domain and as part of the quote a couple of Fortigate appliances were included to provide UTM and a VPN connection between the two offices.
My friend knew that I had been using Untangle at my office and convinced his support guy to use Untangle instead of the Fortigate's (saving $1000+ in initial cost as well as the $600/year for updates). This was my experience as well when I had to contact support during my initial setup last year. I haven't had to call support since then and hopefully I won't have to again since it seems like Untangle just keeps chugging along, but I love having the peace of mind knowing that if I do need help, support that actually cares is just a phone call away.
