    I'm using D-Link NICs with the Realtek chipset on them too. They do seem to be a bit slower than the Intel's to load (but lots cheaper too), but same here -- never more than 5 mins from cold start to fully running. Usually more like 2 or 3 minutes. The *ONLY* time I've seen more than 3 mins is after a power loss (natuaral, not induced ).

    lots cheaper and that is why, software vs hardware nics.
