    Default Ability to name interfaces

Sure would be nice to have the ability to name the interfaces. It's kind of confusing to look at a box with multiple interfaces and see something like this:

Edit Name Config Type Physical Interface MAC Address

    edit External static (wan) eth0 : connected 100Mb/s full-duplex 00:19:b9:e6:de:60
    edit Internal static eth4 : connected 1000Mb/s full-duplex 00:15:17:70:25:a2
    edit eth3 static eth3 : connected 100Mb/s full-duplex 00:15:17:70:25:a3
    edit eth5 static eth8 : connected 1000Mb/s full-duplex 00:1b:21:b8:f3:25
    edit eth7 static eth7 : connected 1000Mb/s full-duplex 00:1b:21:b8:f3:24
    edit eth8 static eth1 : disconnected unknown unknown 00:19:b9:e6:de:62

It would be nice to be able to change the name so that interface roles could be quickly identified. To look and see something like eth8 -> eth1 can be confusing

Heck I'd be happy if the virtual interface names changed from External, Internal, DMZ, eth3, etc. To simply Interface 1, Interface 2, Interface 3. At least then you could sort them! But having ethx indicating a virtual interface name and a physical interface name, separated by an interface configuration type is very hard to read.

I see that's been suggested back in 2008. Ouch. Is UT any closed to having a centralized monitoring system for monitoring multiple UT boxes?

FWIW, this is really becoming an issue as I have one client with 6 interfaces. We use PRTG to monitor the box. PRTG (Doing an auto scan) is coming up with different names that dont match either the Name or Physical interface. For example:

    UT: Only shows 0,1,3,4,7,8

    PRTG: Shows ETH2
    PRTG: doesnt show ETH7

I've also seen before where UT's physical interface name doesn't match the os's name when comparing.

I don't write code. I just sell subscriptions.
