So, can I blame Untangle for all the nightmares I have involving instagate and threatwall now?

No, but you can from now on!

all joking aside, we are excited to have the esoft team on board and making their customers and partners happy.

The announcement was exciting to me. What most don't know is eSoft started me down the path looking for an open UTM for my customers. I had a client that was seriously hurt by massive defects in eSoft products. After engaging thier support for two weeks, I gave up and figured out how to put an OpenBSD bridge running PF in front of the instagate. After that it was a matter of minutes before I discovered the eSoft devices had TCP 22 open to the world, the devices were compromised, and after a bit more investigation with the BSD packet sniffer... I found out the ENTIRE LAN was infected.

My boss and I sold them a new server, and formatted all 20 something machines over 1 night to clear the bugs. Only for them to get reinfected a month later because the execs liked to surf porn while selling stuff.

That started a year long process where the little PF box was refined and sold to other customers. Then there's a six month break when the place I worked for went under, and I was setting up Intouch. As soon as my head found air, I found Untangle. Which was so much more, so much easier, so much awesome. And the rest is history.

So yeah, I have nightmares about eSoft. And having you guys absorb them is terrifying / exhilarating. They didn't play a small role in my discovery of Untangle, but they also set me on a path that taught me more than I thought I ever wanted to know about networks, security, and now crap really works. They are the reason I'm here! And now you own them... it's surreal.

I just got the email about this today. Had no idea it happened a month ago.

Hope nothing changes with the Channel. I'm a huge fan of white-boxing and branding. This is why we went with UT and away from Kerio and eSoft.

I noticed a few other purchases lately, also. Hope we are moving towards a central dashboard for management.

As somewhat of a feature request, I would -love- to see my UT boxes report into a central dashboard with real-time stats. I would also love to have shared blacklists between UT devices, as well as somewhat of a better real-time traffic management interface.

The way I'm doing it now is to analyze daily reports after the fact, then drill down into the Bandwidth Control module, then open Bandwidth Monitor, then poke around the UI to sort by traffic or port, then pop up various tabs to research destination port and destination IP. Then decide to block it, then cancel out of all than, then hit Firewall, then punch in a new rule to drop, then hit apply.. etc.

It would be super awesome to have a nice system with charts and graphs of top 5 talkers, where I could get an alert - or just manually eyeball it. See someone doing something wacky that doesn't match existing rules, right right click and get all the info I need - and see a cute little button that says Block Destination IP. Boom, done.

I can do what I need to do right now, but in a panic situation where I feel like I'm seeing an active attack or malicious outbound data dump, quicker is better.

Not complaining this is good stuff. I just want easier management
