    Default Untangle v11 Spam Blocker

I setup one of my v11 boxes that had been having troubles with spam to use the trial of Spam Blocker yesterday around 9am.

Support got back to me at 10am, to let me know I'll start to see a flag named "BAYES" when the bayes started working.

I don't see bayes in the list, but at this point I don't care either. Because sometime yesterday, something within this new beast of a module turned on.

Exporting the events and stuffing them into Excel I was able to see these numbers for all events from midnight up until now

    941 e-mails were processed
    442 e-mails were dropped
    268 e-mails were quarantined
50 e-mails white listed because they're leaving the network

That leaves only 181 messages today actually being delivered. One specific mailbox yesterday morning had 50 junk e-mails passed to it. This morning? I can't see an e-mail on the pass list for that mailbox that looks like spam. Not one!

It's still too early to tell of course, but this makes me smile. It looks very promising to see that v11 might have just returned the beastly wonderful Spam Blocker I've known, loved, and relied upon for the last half decade.

the spamassassin bayes requires at least 200 hams and 200 spams worth of training before it starts kicking.

    # su spamd -c "sa-learn --dump magic | grep am"
    0.000 0 3904 0 non-token data: nspam
    0.000 0 2983 0 non-token data: nham

the third number is the # of emails used for training

    0.000 0 1393 0 non-token data: nspam
    0.000 0 192 0 non-token data: nham

So it's kicking for spam and not ham?

Also, dumping magic? So many places I can go with that...

No its doesn't start operation until it has 200 of both (my understanding anyway)

Well something changed, because last night it was a glorious slaughter of junk mail, the previous night was good, but rather ho hum. I didn't do anything to the unit other than dump in the trial. Unless the new Bitdefender engine is that much more?

What is the specific role of BitDefender in the Spam Blocker vs. Spamassassin? Do these 2 components/engines work in tandem?

That disappointing to hear as I am still struggling with this onslaught of spam. I wonder if there is that some way to record each of the outgoing DNS queries and the subsequent responses? That's the only idea I can come up with to troubleshoot this further...

I assume it works just like the Commtouch engine did. It's just a spam assassin plugin that does additional scoring.

Are you on Untangle v11? And if so, how did you get there? Upgrade from v10 or a fresh installation?

No, I'm still on v10. I've considered jumping to v11, but doubt that will resolve the issue based on your feedback and other information posted in the forums.
