    Interesting followup for others to beware.
    Upgrading to 6.1, on this box that had this problem, failed to update the ldap database and basically hung the update process (ie, 12+ hr running the same steps). I removed the databases like in my earlier post again, didn't even get a chance to reindex them, and the upgrade was off and running again. I will repost if there's further issues with the upgrade, otherwise, you can assume this solved the problem.
