Default Linksys WRT1900ACS - Missing Apps

    Hello,

    Hope all is well.

Is there a way to add or install Virus Blocker Lite, Spam Blocker Lite and Intrusion Prevention to a Linksys WRT1900ACS?

    Let me know,

    Thanks,

    ZMK7

Not enough memory or CPU performance for those apps on the 1900acs.

All the apps except those. All the apps supported are shown on the GUI.

Has anyone ever added a usb drive just for swap partition or swap file to counter the lack of ram?

USB is so slow even if your could, it would be very inefficient.

I understand the wrt for some reason has a usb 3 and usb 2, with the usb 3 being the zero slot for booting to normally.

I've used linux for a long time on on usb 2 and 3 with the usb 3.0 being nearly as fast as an internal hard drive.

If the image of untangle is on the usb 3 slot and if I believe what forums say about there is little being written to on the drive, I'd have to think that using a swap file as part of the install would be of some or great benefit.

No one said swap was ram. Swap is a way to help systems that don't have enough ram. Has been for decades and decades. Nothing is new with swap.
You could make swap raid, change swappiness and many other features about it on files or partitions.

    Yes you did.

swap will help you remove stale pages from memory to disk and recover those.
Even if you add 10 gigs of swap to your linksys, the working memory set must still be less than 512meg.
swap does not increase the amount of memory available to the active workset.

clam uses 600 megs of memory by itself. adding swap accomplishes nothing.

If you disagree, go for it.
