    Lightbulb New Forum request

Is it appropriate to ask for a new forum category for "Home Networking / IoT"

Or something like that. mebbe throw in a little Wi-Fi.

I am thinking of a catch-all for those similar interests.

    Thanks!

I'm having trouble conceptualizing an issue(s) specific to home use which isn't also (or shouldn't be) realized in today's business(es)...the power of UT is in it's modularity, and its layers simply allow traffic management limited by imagination (and/or knowledge). App level discussions do this exceptionally well and thoroughly...when I go out to a 60k ft. view, I'm still in awe of this effective and serious solution! Sorry, a plug in play sentinel it's not!

I think it's a great idea, I have been doing a lot of Lunch and Learns at work for home network security for those that tend to only buy a router to get WiFi into all corners of their home only to realize that their devices are leaking all sorts of data and accessible by nefarious entities.

Exactly. And in my experience, it's not much better in small businesses. Even when they realize they need to be thinking about security, more often than not they don't know how to think about it.

We help each other and other home users in a forum dedicated to that purpose and we'll be building documentation that might just help those small businesses, and maybe even convert them into Untangle subscribers.

Or, maybe not. But can it hurt to try?

If SMB's actually cared about security I'd have less small business owner neighbors as ID theft victims, and more customers.

    Drives me up a wall...

SMBs must unlearn what they have learned...

We'll think about it. Seriously though, we've been thinking about it for a while. Can't say yes for sure, but I never say no around here either. Anyways, don't let me derail any of this - please keep the feedback coming!

I really hate to do this, but I must agree with f1assistance.

I can't conceive of any unique value to a Home/SOHO/SMB specific forum over what these forums already provide. The process of securing a network with Untangle or anything else is inherently the same regardless of business type. The only thing that matters is the scale.

So the primary difference between enterprise and a home office is what? VRRP? What hardware works? We have forums for all this stuff already, much in active use.

    I need a use case...

But suppose if we had a HomePro forum, we could fill it with useful stuff like how to ground a teenage kid with Untangle. Because trust me... that crap works! Social media off at 10pm! The groans are music... sweet music. Jump to cellular? HA Verizon Family Plan, you've got 500mb of data for the MONTH, watch that evaporate in an evening then WHAM no more data for the rest of the month.

There are times when I actually apologize to my teens for being an IT guy. They get away with NOTHING. My teen daughter regularly wonders how I know all about her personal life when we never talk, yet she still pounds away on that desktop and her cell phone... I've even SHOWN her, she still doesn't get it.

But do we want a parents' support group on these forums?
