    Default Available packages

I am new to UT. I have downloaded and installed UT successfully, however came across one little issue. I prefer vim over vi and it was not recognized as an installable package using apt-get. I had to add a mirror to the /etc/apt/sources.list in order to be able to install it.

My one little suggestion is to make more packages available or include a Debian mirror by default for installing other packages.

All in all 2 thumbs up so far.

    Regards,

    ok, you can do this:

    cp -f /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.tmp
    echo " deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ sarge main contrib non-free " >>/etc/apt/sources.list
    apt-get update
    apt-get install -y vim
    mv -f /etc/apt/sources.list.tmp /etc/apt/sources.list
    apt-get update

now run can run your vim

I guess you didn't read carefully. I said I had to add a mirror to /etc/apt/sources.list in order to install it...that means I figured that out already and installed it...that is why I left this post suggesting that they make more packages available by default or add a debian mirror by default.
But thanks for taking the time to reply.

    regards

Sorry for not reading your question right. I think the reason the Untangle folks don't like to have other sources there is they don't want an apt update to do things they don't control... it will be a complete mess for people that don't really know what they are doing.... for the rest of the people, like you and me, we can add those lines to the source list when we want/need to.

    Thanks

yeah, we could put the packages on the server
    thats a good idea

we can't put debian sources in the sources.list because one of their upgrades may break our stuff so we QA their updates before we push them to our server

What lines do I add to get the untangle based distro?

    Thanks.
