    Exclamation Comercial App Request

I have a client with an Immediate need for a mail archiving module. Needs to capture IM / POP3 / SMTP / IMAP et al.

Should have ability to export to off-line storage and be integrated with reporting. Recovery should be a basic search and dump to text or Crystal Reports savvy.

New federal requirements can turn this into a REAL moneymaker for UT. With the collapse of the money-houses, this will be even more in demand!

I have to echo this one.. I'm required to maintain 30days of backup on any mail server in the Financial/Legal/Nonprofit market segments. I would be able to give UT the money for some of this if it had the feature.

I also echo this need. This would be an easy sell to our clients.

That's something I'd normally turn to a mail service such as appriver or postini for, also in these larger setups, a mail server would be local, no? Backups of Exchange server?

Backups of Exchange 2007. Have you tried to restore one yet? I've tried 3 different backup applications. NTBackup, Arcserv, and Backup Exec. NONE of them work, they all back it up, but in some odd way that isn't restorable... and now that the server has died I'm up the creek without a stick.

The best backup software for Exchange is the Netvault Bakbone APM for Exchange

Seconding an archiving ability for UT.
Mid-May 2008 was the big one for the Data Retention laws here in Europe - no longer a choice, it's a requirement now. For my particular country, I would be required to retain communications data for up to 2 full years, once this law has creeped up enough to require inclusion of my organisation (A public college with it's own mailservers and PBX)

I was thinking about this backed with the Exchange failure that is currently giving me nightmares and it dawned on me...

Barracuda does something that UT doesn't and it would be immensely helpful and more than likely will be required if this feature here is to be done.

Make UT its own mail server...

If UT was the edge SMTP server and relayed messages into my Exchange box right now my customer would still be receiving all their mail. And when Exchange came back online it would all be coming in like a flood. Barracuda does this, I had a groupwise box die on me with that in place.

I really wish I had that feature right now...

After all it isn't all about keeping the customer online, it's about covering their butts when they aren't too.

Setting up Postfix as a backup MX

Yes, but if you read the post at the bottom of that howto.. it isn't complete. I can setup a backup MX... but UT could do that as well. Just like the barracuda.
