The Report is in...

My largest Untangle installation just completed their yearly conference that draws about 10,000 guests.

The week prior to Nov 3rd generated the following report.
Vital Statistics:
Average data transfer rates
Per second 57.870 KBytes/sec
Per day 4.785 GBytes/day

Data transferred 33.578 GBytes
Outbound 10.205 GBytes 30.39%
Inbound 23.373 GBytes 69.61%

Sessions created 735,672
Outbound 620,744 84.38%
Inbound 114,928 15.62%

I now have the report generated last night on the 17th.. which is as follows.

Per second 103.182 KBytes/sec
Per day 8.513 GBytes/day

Data transferred 59.523 GBytes
Outbound 30.096 GBytes 50.57%
Inbound 29.426 GBytes 49.43%

Sessions created 1.121 M
Outbound 1.047 M 93.52%
Inbound 75,951 6.48%

As you can see average daily transfer in volume doubled. The number of raw sessions created increased on an exponential scale. I'll be on site in an hour to get the DHCP logs from the monowall to determine how many users in this were wireless.

Still at this point, Untangle laughed at the spike, and came through like the champion it is! Thank you once again for such a great product. :worship:

what kind of box is that running on?

It runs on one of my designs.

Intel 3000AH Server Mainboard
Intel XEON x3220 Quad 2.4ghz CPU
2 x 2gb DDR2 Memory Modules
400gb Seagate ES.2 SATA Harddrive
SuperMicro AOC-UG-I4 quad port gigabit card

I've learned the hardway the the quad card can't handle the load put on it by this network. The internal and external interfaces are now the two onboard cards. I have 2 of the ports on the card one is the DMZ (public wireless) and DMZ2 (protected SQL server). The remaining ports are reserved for the new building, and a second wan link. *hint* *hint*.

Ok so I pulled the DHCP reports and the peak time was midday Sunday. At that point we had 23 people on the open wireless including 3 iPhones. With the staff load also running full bore.. which is odd but all 40 of them were here...

So 63 people total on Sunday up from my 20 person average. Not nearly as high a number as I thought from the bandwidth numbers. So either the services were really boring and those 23 people were surfing their hearts out... or we had more than our share of infected stations on the network. Given the higher than normal upload numbers... I'm leaning on the latter.

Still the thing did great! As did monowall, served up our legal agreement quite nicely. Now if I can just get one of these things to get me some fries... :D
