Guys just to let you all know - I have a dual FTTH DSL Connection, currently opened for one client 20Mbit in both ways. Have done EXTENSIVE testing with and without UT speed. Let me report these numbers for the record:
    Total downstream speed: 19963 KB/s (about 2MB/s)
    Total upstream speed: 55853 KB/s (about 5,5MB/s)

The relevant difference with and without UT is calculated about 0,5-10% difference, favoring in both ways - meaning depending the status of the global connections.
UT version is 6.0.2 and it has enabled ALL apps - It has many different subnet routes, it has many port rules, firewall rules etc. etc. (many being more then 50 and less then 1000). It also features VPN connections and so on - all the testing was done with 10 virtual machines connected to it, doing it's "normal" network things. So let me just point out, that there is nothing wrong with UT slowing down speeds - not at my rates anyways.

Perhaps there are different situations with different people and DSL connections - but still, i would look into hardware first, then software as other have already suggested that - there are just too many UT clients without these kind of problems to ignore it...but then again I may be the only one that has everything working just fine

Sure not...that remark was meant to be half-serious, more joke-y - not acting superior or bossy or similar in any way...

Alot depends on the hardware. People dont realize that they just cant throw some junk parts in a box and have it work well. Untangle isnt the average linux firewall. You need quality components.

Amen to that. Comparing a 10EUR "Plug'n'pl(r)ay" to a 400EUR Intel/3Com NIC is outrageous - from performance or stability point of view at least. Same goes with other network hardware - we should remember that complete system works as best as it's worst unit...
