    Default Things I've noticed.

    Hello All,

Since migrating over from Endian. I've noticed a few things.

    1. Not able to view active connections.
    2. Not able to see the nic card status (Connection speed, dropped packets, errors)
    3. Not able to view DHCP leases.
    4. No kernel log files.
    5. I didn't notice NTP?
    6. No SSH?
    7. No Uptime, no why of knowing or keeping track.
    8. No reports for cpu, swap, memory, disk space.
    9. Can't see what services are running. However, you guys do it differently with the rack and the "Green/Red" lights.

However, it's a great product and much room for improvement. Keep up the good job guys!

    Hi.

Currently, OS access is restricted for support use only. Some features you might be looking for may be done within the OS.

Some of the features you noted can be accessed via GUI.

-Try installing untangle reports and view detailed reports. ( not sure if this is what you are looking for )

    - To view dhcp leases got to router > dhcp > dhcp address map.

    - SSH can be opened by going to config > support > allow remote support. ( this is normally used by support to troubleshoot problems on the box and not for user use )

    Thanks for trying our product.

    Default Dns?

Can you put custom DNS servers? I used to use OpenDNS, not my ISPs.

You can use any DNS server ( public, isp, internal ) as long as it resolves hostnames.

When you setup your external adapter you either set it manually or auto. There isn't an option to put your own DNS in auto mode. If you go manual then you have to provide an IP. That's not possible when my IP is dynamic.

If you have a dynamic IP, you can check out our Advanced Tip of the day.

That is correct. You can set DNS only for static IPs. Do you have internal hosts that needs to be resolved that is why you need to set specific dns?

    1. OpenDNS is an alternative DNS servers that you can use without using your ISPs. This gives you some privacy and protection.

    a. Protection from certain sites, even though Untangle already does this.
    b. ISP can't track your port 53 lookups.

I do a lot of security stuff and really don't want my ISP "Why are you running certain applications"

To me this would be appreciated that they allow custom DNS even on a dynamic connection. I was able to do this with my previous software.

Thanks for the feedback. I will file a feature request on this and hopefully, it may be included in next releases.
