10.x is in beta phase and 9.x cant upgrade.....for now.
If you are in a AD environment can block spotify (and any other soft) via GPO.
The world is divided into 10 kinds of people, who know binary and those not
Thanks dwasserman!!
Correction, you will NEVER be able to upgrade to 10.0.
Users of 9.4 will have to reinstall their servers to get 10. What remains to be seen is if we can get a utility to convert a 9.4 backup, or some mechanism to have 10 restore a 9.4 backup in full or in part.
But there will never be an upgrade. The underlying OS update is far too complicated for that.
And yes, 10.0 is in beta 3 status right now, it's not released yet so you won't find it on sourceforge, or the regular download pages. It *is* turning out quite nicely. And it will be a very welcome update to much of Untangle's core functionality.

Just for some idle speculation on the 10.0 final release:
I'd expecting a beta 4 on this one. Based on the pace of the other betas, look for it the last week of August. I'll give about 50/50 odds whether or not there's a beta 5, but if there is, look for it 3rd week of September. Otherwise, that will be launch week. If there is a beta 5, launch is likely mid-October.
But again: all that is sheer speculation. I'd love to be proven wrong here and have the RTM come by August 16. That would mean I could implement UT10.0 for this coming term. Otherwise I could be on the 9.4 series for a long time, because I'll have to install 10.0 over top of my production 9.4, and who knows when I'll be able to take down my production system for that long.

We're getting way off topic here, but I just got off the phone with Jim, and his beta 2 install updated to beta 3. Which according to dmorris isn't supposed to happen.
So who knows anything!

Back to the O.P., I use web filter lite / Block Lists / Edit Sites and just put spotify.com in there. It seems simple enough to work for me.
here is the whole list (of everything I could figure for streaming audio), which you may be able to import, then pick through:

thanks jim! for getting back on my topic....not sure what happened there..haha. I have spotify blocked in web filter but they already have it installed so it still works. once it is installed it uses random ports to connect and not the website. I was hoping my firewall could block spotify since I dont have a server at this location.....Any other ideas about blocking spotify?
