    Default ASUS RT-AC88U wifi performance.

New installation on ac88u, everything is great except wifi performance.

I noticed that the maximum transfer rate (wifi to lan iperf client) when connecting in either 2.4 or 5 GHz is 28-30 Mbits when previously (asus firmware) was at 450-550 Mbits/sec.Additionaly there are no advanced options to configure or check wireless properties such as channel width 20-40-80MHz.

Anybody else with the same experience?

    Thanks.

    Unhappy

    I have the same problem.
I've done some iperf tests with my laptop and phone connected via wifi 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz as clients and a desktop connected via cable as server.
The result is always the same regardless if connected via 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz and it's poor performance even for a 2.4Ghz network.

    Code:
    :~$ iperf -s

    I also tried to modify
    Code:
    /usr/share/untangle/settings/untangle-vm/network.js
as mentioned in another post in the forum to manually force 5Ghz channel to something else but didn't help.

    Yeah, sorry.

The ASUS wireless drivers are not open source. Even the broadcom userspace wireless tools are not open source.
We can only work with the binaries floating around the open source world.
There is very little control or visibility we have into the wifi.

You can complain to ASUS, and they'll just suggest that you run ASUS WRT.

This is one of the reasons that we recommend the Linksys WRT1900ACS now.

That's quite a blocking point, without a proper wifi the rt-ac88u is way too expensive for the performance. I'll try to complain with asus but you should also update the comparison charts and specify that wifi will work at 54Mbps at best.
Is there a good alternative to u25 for Europe? Shipment is around 190$ which is the price of a good unify AP basically.

I know this is not your fault, but it would help to be very clear on the limitations of the new router platforms

I bought the ASUS RT-AC88U to run Untangle. There are too many limitations

I have only ever got 20 Mbps using 2.4 Ghz wireless on ASUS RT-AC88U with Untangle 12.2.x. 5 Ghz is so feeble as to be not worth using

Disabled all wireless on ASUS RT-AC88U. Use ASUS RT-AC68U with Merlin 380.65_0 in Wireless Access Point (WAP) Mode. Get 98/16 Mbps on 5Ghz, which is almost as fast as a wired connection, given the limitations of the ASUS RT-AC88U running Untangle

Maybe I should unscrew the aerials from my ASUS RT-AC88U and use them as Gamer bait
