Default Oddity on setup of two z4 appliances

I've set up a second z4 in as many weeks now, and both seem to have odd behavior.

The z4w would not update firmware from 14.1.2 to 14.2.2 and had high memory usage (14% available). I had to start a ticket which was addressed pretty quickly to have them force quit a pending update so that it would update again. It was odd as I had literally just unboxed it.

Set up a z4 today and it has the same problem, only this one also has a lot of JSON errors popping up when trying to install apps or sometimes when applying settings. I am still waiting on this ticket to get answered.

Is this common? Did I get a batch of lemons?

Im a bit concerned as I have a z6 install later today and really dont want to go through this a third time.

Just saw that nobody had replied to this - sorry about that! I've been at Untangle for a few years now, and this is really rare in my experience. I work in the Colorado office that handles the z-series as well, and this isn't something I've heard/a pattern I've seen in our emails/tickets. Since it's been a couple of weeks, how did the z6 install go??

Is it connected to the Internet?

Both were connected to the internet and setup was run through for both and I was able to configure them with initial provisioning for how they needed to be set up.

Both instances support said it looked like a prior update had been stuck pending so the devices would not initiate the process to upgrade. Support was able to flush that and then update worked as expected.

The Z6 updated just fine, however I did notice that post update on the LCD it shows a screen of ***Serial*** (*v4prefixlength in the scrolling status.

I would open another support ticket for the LCD issue. I'm sure we can fix that too.

Cool thanks. I see you were able to reproduce it as well.
