For clarity, the hardware boots up and starts the Untangle boot process but it doesn’t complete because it errors out with a Video error.
Fundamentally, Debian just doesn’t seem to get on with newer hardware. I’m currently running Untangle just fine on a SuperMicro Xeon Server but it’s utter overkill and it’s running about 150W continuous, more at certain times. The Protectli boxes are 15W and a lot more palatable running in a home environment.
In this case the issue seems to be Intel’s onboard graphics.
Bizarrely, if I choose Text Administration mode and then configure remotely it works fine, and it will reboot from power failures etc. quite happily.
If this is the recommended mode of operation then why isn’t it the default option rather than booting into the graphical interface?
Anyway - now I just need to figure out why it’s blocking Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
