The realtec interfaces will work, but they are software driven. Software driven interfaces have worlds of performance issues, and they will effectively double the minimum amount of ram needed for a stable box.

I just got a message that says

    "Service temporarily unavailable"

and internet is down for all machines behind the untangle box.

Untangle was hung and I had to reset. The box did not reboot or restart because I had the client up, and was still up when I saw this message.

Anyway I can check way I can check what happened here ?

    after the reboot unfortunately no.

I'd run those same test from a machine behind
    ping untangle's internal IP
    ping untangle's external IP
    ping 4.2.2.1
    ping google.com
    goto google.com in a browser

(yes, by power supply I mean internal power supply - although clean power from outside could be an issue too but a good power supply handles that)

I just got another reboot while doing some viewing of the crash logs.. I agree something is wrong with the machine, and I'm sendimg it back.

I saw several crash logs in there. Do you have anyway of finding out if it was indeed the machine from the logs ?
    thanks

If it was me, just for giggles, I'd boot a linux live desktop distro off that box and let it run a streaming movie or something....

Ubuntu runs live (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download) as does Knoppix (http://www.knoppix.net/get.php). Both are solid choices when it comes to live discs.

You may one day find something interesting here. Today is not that day. Tomorrow isn't looking too good either.

    Yeah...

It sounds like you have a lemon. I'd memtest86 it myself, then run a factory test on the hard drive. But, at the end of the day... I have a box here I just tossed in the garbage. Intel branded main board, mainline chipset... linux compatible from one side to the other...

The unit won't run worth crap if it isn't windows. Toss linux on it and the thing simply randomly corrupts files.

I hope you aren't going down that path.
