    Default Wrong MAC

    Build: 8.0.0~svn20101105r27827release8.0-1lenny

I just noticed that my UT box on Config/Networking/Interfaces improperly lists the MAC addresses of my NICs. UT box is set up in bridged mode, WAN gets IP from upstream router/DHCP. Looking at the DHCP table in router shows MAC address that UT box reports as Internal Interface. Seems to be working fine, have been playing with QOS and Bandwidth Manager, just thought it was interesting....

So let me see if I get this, your setup is like this:
    |DHCP/upstream router|<==>|Untangle WAN|<==>|Untangle LAN|<==>|Internal Network|

The MAC address of the LAN card is showing up in the DHCP pool on the upstream router on the WAN side? And since it's in bridged mode the LAN NIC is bridged to the WAN NIC. Maybe one of the great Untangle gurus will have some more insight than I do but that seems normal to me.

Of course, I always configure my UT boxes with static IP addresses so I cannot confirm this behaviour....this is simply my (rather tired) ramblings.

You may one day find something interesting here. Today is not that day. Tomorrow isn't looking too good either.

Yep, you got the setup right. I just found it interesting because I have 2 other UT boxes sitting here in the same config and they report their MACs correctly to the upstream router but they are 7.3 and 7.4 UT Boxes.

Something has gone very wrong... the MAC address is used by the Untangle software to figure out what nic is what.

If you have internal's MAC showing up on the "External" side of the device, you've got it plugged in backwards!

I already tried that. When in Config/Network/Interfaces I unplug the WAN/external cable and hit refresh it says I have it unplugged. Its working fine, which is strange

Very... there is an interfaces file buried in Untangle somewhere that appears to have gotten out of sync... fixing it is a matter of deleting the offending file, and refreshing the interfaces on the interfaces tab.

Ok, found the file... now be warned... doing this might just nuke your box!

Do this from the CONSOLE, local access may be the only thing you get for the first boot.

    Code:
    rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
Then reboot, log into the admin interface, go to config -> networking -> interfaces, and click the refresh button to reinstall your network interfaces.

Have a disk handy, and make a backup, you may have to pave it if this goes wrong.

humm, 7.4.1 and 8.0 work the same for me. DHCP server has the internal NIC MAC address for both versions.

It should show the MAC address of the closest Untangle interface.
