    Default Restore Procedures

    Hello,
I've takena look at the wiki, but there doesn't seem to be very clear procedures on how to restore untangle when you have a backup on hand. I've tried this before, and end up with duplicate rack elements.

What's the appropriate way to restore an untangle box from a backup?

    1. Reinstall Untangle (same version as backup?)
    2. Allow Untangle to get its updates and initial module list?
    3. Import backup file?

Will the backup reinstall all the appropriate rack elements, or is that something I need to do, with the backup restoring the configs of those elements?

    Thanks,
    Tim

That is it. The only real "catch" to Untangle's restore is making sure you have all the modules you need installed prior to actually restoring.

The restore won't actually install new apps, but it will reconfigure any that are already there including the instances that are needed for any virtual racks you have beyond default.

So I would need to re-create all racks, and ensure I've re-added all modules to the racks prior to doing the restore?

No sir, you simply need to have all the modules you used installed in the default rack. You simply need the modules installed on the system so the restore can reconfigure them. The extra racks don't have "installs" they have "instances". The restore can "make instances" it can't "install the app".
