    Default High Availability and Licensing

    Hi

    While using two Untangle nodes in a Master / Slave mode using VRRP; do we need to buy license for each node? I assume only for the master, as this alone will be in use at any given time and the license is failed-over to the backup node.

    I had searched and didn't find any answers in the forum or the FAQ. Please advise.

    While ideally both would have full licenses, it is not necessary. The slave is only used if master fails. In that case, the network is still online. At that point the license can be transferred to the slave or the issues on the master can be resolved.

    Thank you for your swift reply. May I know what happens to the paid applications until / during the time the license transfer takes place?

    1. Does this mean that the applications will run without licenses in backup mode, and therefore without functionality.Will they retain the application configuration and become active when license(s) are transferred?

    2. I am assuming license transfer is not automatic and you have to do it from the Untangle account.

    Please advise.

    1. Correct, paid applications will not run without a licenses. Yes the application configuration will be retained and activite when the licenses are transferred.

    2. Correct, licenses are transferred on your Untangle store account.

    The settings don't just move, but a subscribed box has a backup stored in your Untangle account. So if the primary is down for the count, you restore your backup to the secondary server, and transfer your subscription. It's possible to perform this restore ahead of time, the paid modules will be configured and ready but deactivated after the trial expires. Once the subscription is moved, they light up.
