Default No "Web Filter Lite" option in new install

This should be a simple one to answer. I'm building a new UT box after not running a firewall for a few years. First time using NG.

When I'm prompted to add Apps, Web Filter Lite is not listed. Does Web Filter turn into Web Filter Lite after 14 days?

Web Filter Lite is deprecated as of 12.2. It is only available if upgraded from 12.1. Web Monitor is the replacement from Web Filter Lite. Web Filter must be uninstalled in other to install Web Monitor.

Not sure what you mean by "deprecated" in that sentence. Does that mean "no longer available?" If so, where can I download 12.1.

I've been using UT since 4.23.1 (with a break when you changed versions), and without Web Filter it's of no use to me.

    https://wiki.untangle.com/index.php/...eb_Filter_Lite

"Web Filter Lite is now deprecated. On upgrade, Web Filter Lite will still be installed for those currently using it. However, it will not be installable on new installations. It is recommended to remove Web Filter Lite and install Web Monitor.
In the next major version (v13) Web Filter Lite will be removed entirely."

As flawed as it may be, it's the most I can afford. Monitoring isn't what I need, I need filtering, so Lite, with all its issues and inadequacies. Thanks for the link to the previous version. I'll make sure not to allow updates!

If it's a home installation, the home edition which includes Web Filter is available for $5/month or $50/year.

Unfortunately, no. It's a small (and really, really cheap) business. My IT budget is $0, there is no replacement schedule for any equipment or software (I just upgraded to - very cheap - managed switches...first network upgrade in 15 years), and as far as the owner cares, we don't need a firewall at all. This is just for my peace of mind, and so that I can block the obvious porn and video sites to let users (who are independent contractors so no talk of corralling employees) that they are being watched.

Just one way that UT gets used in the real world!

Well then, you'll be glad to know that Untangle removed an utterly ineffective feature that didn't actually block anything.

Seriously, Web Filter Lite is that bad. You were only blocking things in your mind. With Web Monitor now you'll know what people are doing, and if someone is surfing porn you can produce a report and present it to management and let them sort it out.

    Gr8 b8 m8. I r8 8/8.

C'mon sky-knight, don't be so small minded. It does block sites, or at least it used to in the last version before NG. I could block porntube and k-pop video sites and dating sites and anything with the word "pantyhose" in the URL. Open your horizons to include shops like mine where management doesn't care, most people are independent contractors, and at least I can make users think twice about where they visit even knowing only that I'm watching them.
