Default Reinstall Z4 with/using *.backup.tar.gz at the same time?

Is it possible to do a "slipstream" reinstall of NGFW with a backup of the config at the same time?

You can push a backup using Command Center based on UID or serial once it connects to the Internet. That may solved the scenario you have.

I retrieved a backup from Google Drive and uploaded it via Config > System > Restore > "Restore from File" - easy peasy!

When I reinstalled NGFW, the process spawned a new UID for the appliance; any reason I should keep the old one around for anything?

There is only one situation wherein the old UID is helpful... when you've lost your Untangle.com account and Untangle support is trying to find it, to help you get your subscription back.

But, if your Untangle.com account is in good standing, and you have access to it, that old UID is nearly worthless. It become utterly worthless once your subscription is assigned to a new UID.
