    Default u25 question

I have recently acquired a client with a u25 appliance that is running 13.2.1 Can i just jump right to the latest or does this require multiple hops..or can this appliance not be upgraded to the latest version of untangle?

u25 can run current, but if you want to "upgrade" it, you're in for some time. Honestly, I'd take a hard look at the configuration. If it's simple, I'd just nuke it and start over. The v14.0 upgrade is a risk and a time sink. You're going to repeat this process from v15.0 to v15.1... That's TWO OS upgrades to get to current on a platform that's older?

Take a peek at the dashboard and make sure it's on 64bit, but beyond that I'd just nuke the thing and start over with a freshly manually configured v16.0 64bit installation.

I would make a 13.2.1 vm and import the config to. Then you can refer back to it. Or you could upgrade that and then install clean and import the vm config. Not sure if a 32 bit config would import to a 64 bit though. I think it would but haven't done it.

Set the vm as close as you can to the U25. Cloning and or snapshot as you go. It will still take time but down time will be a minimum.

Yes, there is no difference on backups from 32 bit vs 64 bit. I would just reinstall since it is 32 bit and several versions old.

With the time commitment required It will probably be a better value to replace it. I'll draw both up and see what the client wants to do..

And v16 does have a 32bit release, it's the last one. So you CAN upgrade all the way to v16.0 on 32bit, then reinstall the platform and restore the configuration from the v16 32bit onto the v16 64bit.

But that's a TON of extra work with plenty of failure issues in the middle. You're going to need v14.0, v15.0, and v15.1 installation media. Not to mention pull backups at v13.2, v14.2, v15.0, and v15.1 just to be safe.

Yes! Or you'll have to make a VM of the same version, and upgrade THAT all the way to v15.1.1 / v16 to make a configuration that can be restored.

That path is far safer, and how I take backups from customers and update them. Untangle I believe has a similar service.
