I was having some issues with untangle for windows myself. I cam here yesterday and read through this thread.

I had installed the untagle for windows on an old p4 box with a gig of ram. It was working great, then, I was having some issues with it. It would constantly loop the status:starting in the tray icon.

I uninstalled and delete both the vmware and untangle folders in the program files directory. Then, I installed, and before I rebooted, I had copied over the folder in the zip file on the first page of this thread.

The tray icon does not work, however, using the untangle admin icon on the desktop, I am able to connect and populate the rack.

I should also note, when I installed, I picked the custom/customize option and chose how much ram to dedicate to vmware/untangle, and its working.

I am having similar issues with an old dell laptop at home I am trying to setup untangle on. I am going to try to do it the same way I did on this unit here.

Also, what are the ideal system requirements for running the windows untangle? I am running the dell box at work, its a p4 2.8ghz single core, with 1gb of ram and about 20-25 users on the network.

The laptop I am going to try at home, has 512mb of ram, and is a P-M 2.0ghz.

I am also wondering if there would be the possibility of untangle for windows being able to run in a win2k3 environment?

huh? Are you sure you fully uninstalled the previous one?
    Can you check your md5s?

When you open the VMware console (which you can safely do now) what happens?
It should open a VNC window that shows you the status of untangle...

Yes I uninstalled and deleted the UT folder as well as uninstalled VM.

    md5s?

I ran the VM comsole from the cmd line and UT came up but did not show any network data. Like it was not on line. systray just locks up like it did the first time. I didn't see any VNC window

Kill the systray app and restart it.
Then run the "Launch VMware Console"
