Hi,

Some of my clients wants to control the usage of internet to their employees. they dont have a inhouse it team. So they are telling us to go and do it for them. I'm thinking of implementing Untangle Server in their Office.

If I Charge for the Installation and Configuration does it go against the GPL License?

Others are welcome to join in with their opinion here. Mine is that you are offering network engineering consulting services when you install and configure an Untangle box, or anything else for that matter. That is a separate matter from the product itself.

My 2 cents:

Yes, you can charge them for your "network engineering consulting services", but you should also give some back to the Untangle folks. You can either buy one of their nice-and-cheap pre-installed servers or use your own server and pay for support.

Support from my point of view means being able to keep enjoying the great work of our Untangle Engineers (friends).

Also, for the record, I don't work for Untangle, I'm just a simple user like you.

I wouldn't consider you as a simple user. You are a "Master Untangler" in our eyes, almost white wizard level.

It is totally legal to charge for the installation and configuration of GPL software.

my company worked w/ untangle to become resellers of the pay for version of it.

they said they didn't have a problem with us charging for installation/configuration of the free version.

My first Implementation of Untangle Server in one of my customer was yesterday. and the installation went good, no problems. Just waiting for the first report to be generated. Thanks all for your support and help.
