    Default Something aint right.

I keep seeing people ask about how to enable untangle remote admin.

For router mode all you need to do is enable the remote admin and it should work. That is not the case for me, since around 5.x I have ALWAYS had to enter a port forward into Untangle to allow remote admin to itself.

Even on a brand new install it is still the same way. The "Untangle remote administration overrides port forwards" is check just like it is by default.

What is the case with this?

Assuming the Untangle has an Internet address there is no need to forward anything.

That is why I am saying, it is is not right.

If I don't add the forward, it won't allow me to use the external remote admin.

If I do it works perfectly fine.

Remove your port forward, then try to figure out whats going on.

Post a screenshot of your config->administration settings.
what happens when you telnet to the external IP port 443 from the outside? does it connect? what happens if you open a browser there?

When I remove the port forward and try the web browser, it just spins until it does not resolve.

telnet, I have no idea. i did not know that is an option.

    Here is my external config.

The one the screenshots are from is an upgrade from 7.1.1 to 7.2.

The issue has been there since 5.4 at least cuz that is when I started to get into Untangle.

The issue is not something that happens over time, it has been this way since I have built my first Untangle box.

Just as a comment, my external admin has worked nicely ever since I've been using UT and had that option enabled, or at least once I figured out the correct addressing, https://<external ip>
