I think Untangle can hold it's own with some of the big dawgs like iPrism and Barracuda
Heck for the price and ease to deploy - all others must bow before Zod...er...I mean Untangle.

Do any of the other products that will be tested use content filtering?

So if untangle is testing this they must have done this test before... how did UT rate then?

I wonder if we can setup an online webinar for our forum members. I will ask the powers to be and maybe we can do this.

    Here is the full article:

Following the success of last summer’s Anti-Virus Fight Club, Untangle (www.untangle.com) today announced Deep Throat Fight Club, which will take place during the RSA Conference in San Francisco on April 9. Using an open testing format, Deep Throat Fight Club will test six web-filtering products for their effectiveness at blocking pornographic websites.

Internet pornography in public settings – workplace, schools, libraries and government agencies – is an escalating challenge nationwide. About one in four companies have fired an employee for misusing the Internet, according to a 2005 survey by the American Management Association. One in six men who have access to the Internet at work said they watched porn while on the job, according to a survey by Harris Interactive in 2006.

Much like blocking spam, porn filtering is a difficult moving target. New porn sites spring up everyday. We’ve come to accept that some spam will get through email filters, but is that acceptable for porn in schools? Is blocking 80%, 90% or 95% acceptable for businesses or public libraries?

The Deep Throat Fight Club challenge will shed light on how these web filters actually perform. It will establish a baseline metric for porn filtering. Organizations can then decide if the tools are sufficient or need to be bolstered with other methods.

“No filter is going to catch everything,” said Dirk Morris, CTO and Co-Founder of Untangle. “So we’re benchmarking the industry to give everyone a better idea of what to expect.”

More and more companies are taking measures to address the porn-at-work phenomenon by using software to block workers’ access to inappropriate Web sites. Two-thirds of U.S. companies used such software in 2005, according to a survey by the American Management Association, up from 40 percent in 2001. But is this really enough? Let’s find out.

Untangle will run the Deep Throat Fight Club during the famous security conference, RSA, on Wednesday, April 9 at 12:15pm at the Thirsty Bear Brewing Company, a ˝ block from San Francisco’s Moscone Center. The event is open to the general public. For more information, visit www.untangle.com/deepthroat.

The six web-filtering security tools being tested come from Barracuda, Fortinet, ScanSafe, Sonicwall, WatchGuard and Websense.

Any event that involves having to sign a waiver because of the amount of porn you will look at is an event that I need to be at.

Too bad it is in San Fran.

    Silver Bullet,

Are you talking about the low-brow entertainment or the high-brow brew?

Sounds like there will be both there.

What will be funny is when one of the filters fail and you have someone that has had a few too many watching it when it does and they say... "hey!!!woah, go back just a minute!".
