Default Unable to access Untangle through browser.

First off, I want to give a big THANK YOU! to the devs and anyone else involved with untangle. It's simply fantastic. I have been using IPCop with satisfactory results, but was never truly happy with it (too many compromises, errors, old technology, etc). I finally said enough is enough with IPCop and went on the search for something better. I read a random post about Untangle on some obscure forum I found through searching Google. I visited the website and loved what I saw.

Now, I just finished getting everything installed and configured. So far everything I have tested is working wonderfully except for access through my browser from within the network. I installed the latest version of Java, rebooted both my computer and the Untangle box, and I'm still getting an "Application Error" - "Unable to launch the application" when trying to launch the client from my browser. I am getting a "More Information" popup with the following:

Error: The following required field is missing from the launch file: <jnlp>
Contents of the "Launch File" Tab:

I have tried using Firefox and IE with the same results. Any help getting this running would be greatly appreciated. The rack is only 30 feet away from my computer, but, hey, what can I say, I'm lazy. lol Thanks in advance!

Are you accessing it via a DNS record? Or the direct IP? I would try just using the IP if you are using DNS. I had problems with DNS, and when I switched to IP only it worked great.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried with http://[hostname], http://[IP], and https://[IP]:443. All three have the same results. I see the Untangle Client Launcher screen, I click the "Launch Untangle Client" link, then I get a "Java Starting..." splash screen followed by the error mentioned above.

What version of Untangle are you using? 5.03, 5.1 or 5.2?

What client OS are you trying to launch the Untangle client from?

Have you tried https://[IP] without the :443? Https denotes the port usage without any other input.

Sorry, should have mentioned that. I am using Untangle v5.1. My desktop OS is Windows XP SP2. Java version 6 update 5.

I have not tried that. I'll give it a go tomorrow and post the results. I'm going to try to enjoy what's left of my weekend now. lol Thanks for the replies!

Try clearing the java cache on your PC or try from another PC.

*sigh* I tried completely removing java and reinstalling... same result. I just tried clearing the java cache (thanks for the tip, btw, didn't know java even had a cache) and, again, same result. I will try on a different computer, but I don't think anything is wrong with my install as I can launch other java apps just fine.

At this point I think I'm going to have to re-install UT.

Ok... it DOES work on another computer. I just don't know what could be wrong with my computer. I have completely removed every trace of java from my computer and re-installed the latest version. I have disabled my firewall and antivirus. I have cleared the case for java and even disabled it. When I disable the cache completely, it does attempt to download but the "Remaining Time" just keeps going up and up and it finally errors again, but this time it says it can't continue because it was redirected too many times.

Just for S&G I'll try uninstalling my firewall/av software just in case it's not shutting down completely when I tell it to. I'm using COMODO for both apps. At least I don't have to re-install UT... just have to figure out what's wrong with my computer!
