    Default DNS server responded slowly...

I just got this message for the first time. I read another thread on this but it has been closed.

I was hoping sky-knight or someone else can help with this issue.

If I change the EXTERNAL interface primary/secondary DNS override to google, openDNS, etc then do I need to change the internal interface?

    Any help/recommendations are appreciated. Thanks.

This alert is the DNS resolve from external DNS server so just your WAN interfaces.

jcoffin - Thank you. I did that and then got two additional warnings about spam filters I think due to using a different DNS server.

I changed back to original settings and those warning went away.

I guess I'll leave it with untangle using the DNS server from ISP (AT&T as it was originally). Is that best or should I use another DNS sever?

The first time I've seen "DNS server responding slowly" warning today and I did notice pages "loading" very slowly.

Google Public DNS is blocked from URIBL so generally Google DNS cannot be used with SPAM blocking processes.

ISP DNS are some times under powered and will respond slowly at times. The longer it takes to resolve a site name, the longer it will take to reach the page.

If you are using spam blocker, I had much better results using Google, Level 3, or whatever DNS I could get away with that was quick on External, and using the dns tab to redirect queries for the black and white lists that break to a DNS that supports those. There's a thread around here somewhere with the details.

If you aren't using spam blocker, use whatever DNS works.
