    Default Optimal DHCP lease time

    Hi.
I manage an high school WiFi network with UT that act also as DHCP server.
All the devices connected to the WiFi network (about 220) are mobile devices (smarphones, tablet, notebook and so on…)
I've noted that many devices , randomly, every days don't receive the IP address from the UT's DHCP server.
I believe it could be related to the DHCP lease time too high.

Do you think this is a right consideration?

    And, if yes:
    1) wich is the optimal lease time setting for this kind of WiFi network?
    2) how may I change the default lease time?

    Thanks in advance

The default lease time is one hour (Config, Interfaces, your internal interface, DHCP Configuration). That's pretty typical and should be adequate.

While you're in there, make sure you have enough addresses in the DHCP range (enough addresses to cover the number of devices likely to be active at any one time). It's possible the DHCP server is running out of addresses.

Just to be sure, you're not using a /24 with 220 hosts, right? You should be using a /22 to keep some room available, particularly for devices that may have multiple MAC addresses (like 2g/5g radios).

I have a client that offers free WiFi. I set the lease time to 5 minutes.

Yeah you need a very aggressive timer for wifi hot spots, but I settled on making that wifi network a /22 and setting a lease of 30min.
