    Default Playstation 4 network issues

    Hi all,

First up, sorry I may not be as technical as many of the people here but I'll do my best to explain my problem.

I use a build my own version of untangle on a QOTOM minipc and it's been amazing for the year and a bit I've been using it.

There has been a recent update to the Playstation 4 which has changed it's network communications which I suspect is getting blocked by my untangle device, causing issues with party chat/in game voip.

First up, I have uPNP enabled, this has worked flawlessly before and I have had no issues with the ps4 but since the update I've encountered issues so cannot be certain if that's working as intended.

I have port forwarded the necessary ports as per previous threads have suggested and the issue remains.

I've taken a pcap from the ip address of the playstation while it has been encountering issues and I see a lot of:

    18:39:15.058136 IP 34.219.215.0 > 192.168.0.138: ICMP host 34.219.215.0 unreachable - admin prohibited, length 132
    18:39:15.103526 IP 192.168.0.138.53598 > 34.219.215.0.3478: UDP, length 104
    18:39:15.107239 IP 34.219.215.0 > 192.168.0.138: ICMP host 34.219.215.0 unreachable - admin prohibited, length 132
    18:39:15.152486 IP 192.168.0.138.53598 > 34.219.215.0.3478: UDP, length 104
    18:39:15.161479 IP 34.219.215.0 > 192.168.0.138: ICMP host 34.219.215.0 unreachable - admin prohibited, length 132
    18:39:15.201472 IP 192.168.0.138.53598 > 34.219.215.0.3478: UDP, length 104
    18:39:15.205620 IP 34.219.215.0 > 192.168.0.138: ICMP host 34.219.215.0 unreachable - admin prohibited, length 132
    18:39:15.249467 IP 192.168.0.138.53598 > 34.219.215.0.3478: UDP, length 104

the 192 address is my ps4 and the 34 is Sony's AWS infra.

I've tried disabling various apps on the device but they don't seem to change the condition, Web filter, firewall, application control.

I'e attached the pcap for someone to have a look at, hopefully it's just a setting I need to enable to ensure this works. I can't even be certain that this is what is causing the issue.

    Cheers!

Hmm...that's interesting. I run my PS4 through my Untangle (z6) at home too, and haven't had any issues/changes w/this latest system software rev. I do everything from my PS4, too: PSVue, Plex/etc, etc. I just remoted in to double-check my settings, and I don't even have UPnP enabled and never have, which hasn't affected my ability to join a party/chat. Is your Untangle installed in router mode?

Chiming in that I also have the exact same issue and I've gone through the same steps with the same results.

I work on a college campus, the the PS4 update broke things for some people, here, too...

but not just here. Colleagues at other campuses tell me that Sony was just plain dumb and this broke things at *lots* of colleges. Home networks, where there's typically only a single PS4 wanting to listen on those ports, are for the most part fine, but shared environments with several playstations are having issues with the latest update.

Which is weird, as one would think college students would be a HUGE part of the PlayStation market, and therefore Sony would want to use a more campus-friendly architecture.

Yeah, I've now seen enough people complaining about this that it's not an untangle problem/bug. I do have 2 PS4's on my network (sometimes 3). I'm going to play with the uPNP settings tonight on Untangle to see if I can make any difference.

If this idiotic industry has taught me anything, it's that the purse owners that pay the devs don't care about a quality product.
