Default LAN2/LAN3 ports bridged to LAN not receiving VLAN tagged DHCP addressing

    Hi everyone,

I'm using a J3160 box with 4 Intel NIC's and UT in router mode. I have two Unifi switches connected in a daisy-chain to LAN1 which works fine for all VLAN DHCP (VLAN tags assigned through WLAN and switch ports). I thought I would free up the two ports on my switches that I'm using to connect them for more devices, but when I bridged the LAN2 and LAN3 ports to LAN1, and connected switch 1 to LAN1 and switch 2 to LAN2, any devices downstream from LAN2 (and/or LAN3) couldn't receive DHCP addresses for the VLAN's they are connected to. Only devices downstream from LAN1 can/could receive DHCP addresses if they are VLAN. Non-VLAN traffic had no problem in either connection. I had thought that "bridged-to" meant that devices connected to bridged ports would behave as if connected to the original LAN port. Does someone know why this doesn't work? Thank you.

Linux will not process tagged packets on an interface that isn't tagged. So when you bridge the physical NICs together, only the untagged packets are forwarded.

If you wish tagged packets to flow, you must create new virtual interfaces for each VLAN on each physical NIC, and bridge the virtual interface to the virtual interface servicing that VLAN on the parent NIC.

I have LAN 2 bridged to LAN 1 on my protectli. All devices on LAN 2 get DHCP addresses.

    VLANs are a different animal.
