Just a caveat. These can be Microsoft share points on one drive which has content from users. Any content as such from one of these can have malware.

I don't use OneDrive so I don't know how it works, but just in terms of possible causes, I can imagine a hailstorm of alerts if some part of iCloud were for some reason being watched as a malware distribution point, even if all the devices using iCloud were clean.

There are several malware strains out there that subvert Sharepoint via compromised accounts to publicly host compromised materials advertised to potential victims via various means.

This is why O365 must be MFA protected... And why admins should have disabled public sharing entirely long ago. I believe that feature is now off by default, but there are a TON of tenants out there with old settings.

    So yeah... that's a thing.

Onedrive is a critical component of Windows 10 now, so much so that I dare say if you aren't using it, you aren't using the OS correctly. So that's also a thing.

Perhaps, but the OP is talking about a Mac triggering the alert. Which made me think that iCloud's tight integration with all Apple products might produce a similar outcome even if the devices are clean. In other words, in iCloud's case, alerts might not necessarily indicate an infected device. It may just indicate an active device.

Whether that's true in the case of a Mac connected to OneDrive, I don't know. Since a virus scan on the Mac isn't showing anything (for what that's worth), I was tossing out other possibilities.

I'm not certain either, but I'd also assume your assertion that any cloud storage system could be exploited in such a way.

This risk extends to Azure, AWS, and GCP as well.

I know Azure / Office 365 have been and continue to be hit, so I assume the others are targets as well.

well, that does go a little too far, but if you haven't taken steps to make it stop in 1909, it does phone incessantly, whether you use it or not.

No OneDrive on Windows 10 means no crypto protection. It also means you aren't using O365 correctly...

So if you don't care about both of those things, do without OneDrive!
