    Thanks Rob, your knowledge is always appreciated. I think in most EU countries (can't speak for US or other continents), IP's are not static, so bear this in mind.

    The nature of the address on the ultimate WAN device doesn't actually matter in this case.

    This is how you get public names to resolve internally so your local services can do what they need to do. And if your WAN doesn't have a static address, you aren't hosting things on it! Well... not without dynamic DNS and a whole new layer of insanity anyway.

    But you do need these wildcard DNS rules sometimes. Sadly, getting the DNS challenge to work for letsencrypt in this scenario is a little rough! But if he's building a K8S cluster, he's probably already got something orchestrating that.
