Thanks, a lot of us love our untangles and want to support you all in keeping the product moving forward. Yet we can’t afford or justify the costs of moving to the complete.
Hi folks, now that we've released NG Firewall 16, which includes WireGuard as part of our business Complete package, we are looking at other options. For those who are part of our feedback.untangle.com community, we ran a survey around Home usage / requests recently and got a lot of good information on what our users are looking for along with preferences on various delivery options. Your feedback is always appreciated and we're listening. We're working through survey feedback, and will share more information as we have it.
best,

Much appreciated. I'm an Untangle Partner and so I have a HomePro license so that I can better work with Untangle, understand its configuration, and further its use with our business clients. Unless you have an option (and if you do other than paying full business prices, please mention it here or via DM) to add on Threat Prevention and Wireguard, I lose out on full understanding of these features in a way that makes me less effective at work. I don't mind paying a modest price (I already purchased HomePro for use on a spare u25) but if the features aren't really available at all...![]()
Just want to provide a quick update on my findings while looking for a alternative solution for Untangle (kind of a Plan B in case Untangle will continue their direction):
After nearly two weeks of intense testing, I'm really on the point to switch to OPNsense and SENSEI!
Right now, you get together with OPNsense a free ETPRO Telemetry Edition lifetime sub. included, which I think provides a better IPS/IDS as currently within Untangle!
Firewall rules within OPNsense are also very easy to implement, so I would say both solutions are equal.
DHCP and VLAN setup are a bit more complicated within OPNsense but doable.....
Wireguard is already implemented within OPNsense!
SENSEI: HOME License costs about 100$ per year but you get Advanced Threat Prevention, Application Control and way more as within Untangle!
The only missing thing within OPNsense is the Remote Web and Control service....
It would be nice to hear your feedback on my findings within OPNsense (maybe I missed something)?
Okay, in that case... I have no axe to grind against FreeBSD but my longstanding preference is to exclusively use/support Debian and Debian-based products. In my experimental days I tried hard to like openSUSE and I did make some use of CentOS, but my preference settled on Debian and without some compelling reason to change, I'm content to stick with my preference. I take it you have no such preference, but I wanted to point out that in terms of the underlying OS, there is no comparing NGFW and OPNsense.
Hardware support for Linux is also a very active thing with certain vendors like Intel. Those vendors don't support the BSDs as well, so I tend to stick with Linux as well because... well...
Have fun getting a 40gbit fiber NIC to work on OpnSense...
Yes, I have them working with Untangle.![]()
