Default Moving install to different hardware - UEFI install

I have 16.1.1 installed on a Pondesk Intel® Atom E3845. I wish to move the install to a PowerEdge R220, I assume due to the UEFI install I'll have to re-install?

Or is their a way of maintaining the UID as it breaks command reporting. Even if you do a fresh install and then a restore.

All Untangle installations generate a new UID during first boot. Backup / Restore does NOT backup that information, nor restore it.

So when you restore to the new machine, you'll have to add the new UID to your Untangle.com account, and move the subscription to it. It's a new server, and it will be treated as such.

EFI vs BIOS doesn't change this behavior at all.

Does moving from VM to baremetal works seamlessly with restore option? (Hyper-V VM to some protectli or qotom mini pc )

Yes, backup / restore doesn't care what you're backing up from or restoring to. All it cares about is the Untangle version matching, and the number of network interfaces on the restore side being at least as many as where the backup came from.

So if I pull a UEFI installed Untangle from one device, move it to another UEFI device? Will it boot with no issues? If I recall as part of the KB you need to turn off secure boot in the BIOS before doing the original install.

All bets are off if you're talking about just yanking the drive out of a system and firing it up in a new one. That might work, it might cause Armageddon... you're on your own in that one.
