    Default Slow boot time

    Hello Everyone!

Installed Untangle 16.2.2 on HP 620+ (240 M2 SSD, 16 Gig of RAM, I340-T4) in legacy mode (doesn't boot if installed in UEFI). Takes about 5 min to boot. Is this normal? What are your boot times?

    Thank you

No it should boot quicker than that. Hit escape to watch the boot. There are also logs you can look at.

From which point in the process did you start the timer to gather 5 mins?

Given the number of Ethernet ports you have, PXE boot may be going through and timing out on all (4+1=) 5 ports before it even starts booting-up Untanlge from the drive.

For baseline purposes, I have on my bench a test Untangle instance installed on a 250GB HDD with a Xeon E5450 and 8GB of RAM. From cold start, it takes around 2.5 mins to boot-up. But from the Untangle boot menu, it just takes around 1:56.

I have an IBM server with an IMM module that does this with no way to disable it, and hellannoying.

It takes about 2 min to pass Untangle loading screen, and then another 3 min for UVM to boot.

Ah, well... that is slow. My next suspicion was probably the CPU. For that, I had to reboot my production firewall to time it.

    HP Gen 7 Microserver
    AMD Turion II Neo N40L
    8GB DDR3
    250GB HDD

Boot-up time from cold start took roughly 2.5 mins.

Probably not the CPU, I guess.

No way for any of us to help honestly, this is a hardware issue and one of the things you take upon yourself is hardware support when you roll your own hardware.

If I had to spitwad an issue from here? I'd say either the SSD sucks, or the SATA controller it's sitting on isn't compatible with Debian.

Here is what mine takes to boot.
    Code:
    [root @ homeuntangle] ~ # systemd-analyze
    Startup finished in 41.468s (kernel) + 1min 8.180s (userspace) = 1min 49.648s
    graphical.target reached after 1min 8.158s in userspace
    That is a proxmox vm.
Last time I saw slow booting was something about "A start job is running for Raise network interfaces". It was a bug and fixed. If that is what you are seeing read this. https://forums.untangle.com/networki...nterfaces.html

What are you seeing in the logs?

    Nifty command.

This is the output from mine:

    Code:
    Startup finished in 7.451s (kernel) + 1min 51.805s (userspace) = 1min 59.257s
    graphical.target reached after 1min 51.770s in userspace
