Got htop working, would like to install ntop or something similar. Would like some detailed stats from the command line. Something much more realtime than the reports.
Options?
Thanks.

nload, bmon, iftop, and htop are all i need, it turns out, and i managed to get them all installed and working without my UT install causing a hot war or a quantum singularity.
Until an upgrade comes with a kernel update.

jnettop and iftop are there stock... or at least were once upon a time and still on mine.
I haven't used these in years, because there is nothing "more realtime than the reports".
That is, not unless you want information in less than a second. Which isn't terribly useful. Just click the auto refresh button and enable your filters.

This threat no longer applies to "Home" users. The only option is these forums and I guess most who could answer don't care if you use the cli or not. Worst case backup and do what you like. If its broken reinstall and restore. Don't modify apt! You can wget the deb and install. Fix dependencies as required. They wont get updated automatically, you will have to do that manually.
One program I use is mtr. It is a much improved traceroute that updates real time with stats. Try it, you will like it.

Just installed it and love it, thanks.
I run UT on an old low power quad-core laptop with a gig USB ethernet adapter in a 3.0 port and onboard gig-e. Runs like a raped ape. These shell commands allow me to keep the lid open and view interactive realtime statistics, which I find useful as I am continuously tweaking my network.
