Default Alias IP Address over Open VPN

    Hello

My knowledge of networks is pretty limited. I have an ip address 192.168.1.42 that is in the same subnet on the Untangle server and on the client / remote network even though the 2 networks are in different cities. So we have a conflict because 192.168.1.42 exists on both networks.

    I need to either:
    - force 192.168.1.42 on the client to use Open VPN
    - Alias it to something else .. so that when you use a different ip address it uses 192.168.1.42 on ther server.

    Help!

You should not use the same subnets on interconnected sites.

Can you provide more details? Starting with:

    Site A: Ip address subnet
    Site B: Ip address subnet

You cannot cheat and reuse IP addresses, the conflict isn't for a singular address, it's for all of them in the range. That's TCP/IP 101... one or the other networks must be renumbered.

This is why I NEVER recommend using 192.168.1 in a business setting, makes a huge train wreck of a mess. Renumber one of the networks to solve the problem.

I don't use 192.168.anything.anything in any of my supported networks when I'm setting them up from scratch.

    Everything I do is 10.x.x.x!

Yeah, then you wind up teaching people how to change their home default addressing, because it's faster to renumber an all dynamic house than it is to renumber any business.

    And yeah, it always stinks.

Don't know if this might work for you? Still have to modify settings.

Subnet address Netmask Range of addresses Useable IPs Hosts
    192.168.1.0/25 255.255.255.128 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.127 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.126 126
    192.168.1.128/25 255.255.255.128 192.168.1.128 - 192.168.1.255 192.168.1.129 - 192.168.1.254 126

So you might just as well do it right and switch one or the other to 10.x.x.x.
