    Default Smart garage openers, anyone?

Hi! I've received pretty helpful responses on my other queries so far, so I figure I'd also try my luck with this one.

Long story short, I've been advised time and again to get a smart garage opener installed so I figured I'd look into it, but I guess I'm just sort of lost on this. I need to know the sort of things one should take into consideration other than just price. Things like ease of installation, connectivity, and perhaps most importantly, safety.

So far I've been using this guide to weigh my options, and it has helped, but there's more I need to be answered, especially on the safety side of things.

By installing one of these, would I be introducing a potential security vulnerability to my house? I'd love to get some insight on this, plus other things to consider when it comes to smart garage openers.

    TIA!

Any cloud managed IoT will add a possible vector for compromising your network. Check the device's company's update policy to see how long and often they update their firmware. Also look for devices that can be controlled locally instead using some cloud app.

Agreed, I am testing with Shelly devices for the same reason.

You might also look at home assistant. It is free software but I have not looked at it. Sounds interesting though.

That does look pretty interesting actually - if maybe a bit more involved than just buying and installing a single device. I'll take a good look at it, thanks.

Why? A person just asked for recommendation, why not?
