Descent ROCKED! I still have my CD that game with a SoundBlaster! 16 + cd kit I had in my 486. Joystick + keyboard, 4 player null modem cable... oh the hours I wasted...

We even had modem to modem multiplayer going from time to time.

Personally I missed Quake II, and Quake Worlds. I didn't get back into the FPS until Half-Life was released.

Then I like so many others played entirely too much Counter-Strike.

Quake 3 Arena - the pacing was hilariously quick. I think I had more fun rail gunning and rocketing people in that game than any other.

I have to correct you on this one...

Descent was the first truly 3D FPS. The original quake was released after, and it wasn't 3d, it was just like DOOM. 2D designed to make you think it was 3d.

Quake II was finally 3D, as it ran with Glide on the Voodoo series accelerators from 3DFX.

Game History... I'm such a dork.

Back in the early 90's Decent was my favorite. I actually still have it and loaded it up on my laptop about a month ago. Still works great.

there's irony here. I spend most of my time on Untangle blocking this stuff so people actually can do work in an office - rather than enjoy themselves.
