    Default Network monitor application

Does anybody know of an opensource network monitor application (similar to what's up gold?).
We have a need for real time network monitoring and the company doesn't want to spend the money on What's Up.
Whatever we select would need to monitor a 15 site wan and the associated servers and routers.
I have a bias against anything that would require a client to be installed on the servers to work correctly.
    Anybody have any ideas?

These both look very promising. How does "The Dude" work with Cisco and Adran routers?
I also like the network display. The ability of to each of my locations on a map of the US for monitoring is very appealing. It would have a huge "wow" factor when clients come to visit. The Nagios maps look boring by comparison.

This thread would give you the best answer to your question.

MikroTik RouterOS • View topic - Show us your map

One of my installations is running in a sb network on an xp client as a service, sends me emails when units go up and down, pretty configurable.

    Try Zenoss (open source)

Zenoss Home - Commercial Open Source Application, Systems and Network Monitoring - Zenoss

Ive used it and its pretty easy to get up and running and network map feature is really helpful. Look on the site for demos.

I vote for zenoss. It would be nice if we had a pack for untangle in there.

Default Xymon (aka Hobit) or BigBrother 2.30 free

Hi Either one is great! Xymon is a true network monitor and runs only on NIX type os but Big Brother is a windows alternative but a little less feature rich but still a lot of functionality.
