    Default New Site Design!

Now that we finished up work on UntangleAppliances.com for Jim. (mostly anyway) We have had some time to continue development on our own site.

It is based on the Joomla CMS platform, and all the graphics and stuff are custom.

Take a look, give opinions, good or bad, just be constructive. :-)

There is still work to be done though.

Looks very good, I like the colour combinations and seamless integration most.
I noticed it won't shrink or stretch, which is good for the design itself. but not for smaller screens such as wide screens which lack height but have copious amounts of width, and mini laptops that have neither. That said, it might break on mobile browsers due to browser and bandwidth (that includes people with mobile internet pcmcia cards/usb sticks for their laptops) limitations.
You can't develop for them all, of course.
One last thing, I can't be sure of course as i'm not completely familiar with XHTML, but there appear to be a few typos in there as well, which is probably the 'work to be done' you mentioned.

Sorry if that was a bit too, um, constructive. I tend to pick things apart where possible

    Xolo, you're dead on...

    http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...Inline&group=0

The site is indeed using invalid markup.

The CSS is valid 2.1 however.

    http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/v...ning=1&lang=en

Incidentally the markup issue is why I've always moved away from CMS software... I'm a bit obsessive about my code syntax and errors of that type crawl under my skin and bug me until I get them fixed.

I'm also an anti-table natzi so keep that in mind.

The design is aesthetically quite good. The colors aren't what I would choose but they work together really well.

Agreed on the tables, and true on the CMS thing. However it loads up and looks pretty in the following browsers. IE6, IE7, FF2, FF3, Latest Safari, Latest Opera, Latest Chrome. So in most respects (in web design anyway) having perfect code is not always a necessity, as tweaks and such are required to make things work how you want them to. IE6 has to be the most annoying piece of garbage ever coded. Well, not so much coding, but glue and pasted together from old pieces of construction paper.
